1: 1 βιβλοϲ γενεϲεωϲ ιυ χυ · ὑϊου δαδ ὑϊου αβρααμʼ

2 αβρααμʼ εγενʼνηϲεν τον ϊϲακ · ιϲακ ^┬ εγενʼνηϲεν τον ϊακωβʼ · ϊακωβʼ δε εγενʼνηϲε τον ϊουδαν · και τουϲ αδελφουϲ αυτου ·

3 ϊουδαϲ δε εγενʼνηϲεν τον φαρεϲ · και τον ζαρα εκ τηϲ θαμαρʼ φαρεϲ δε εγενʼνηϲεν τον εϲρωμ · εϲρωμʼ δε εγεννηϲεν τον αραμʼ :

4 αραμʼ δε εγεννηϲεν το αμιναδαβʼ ˙ αμιναδαμʼ δε εγεννηϲε τον νααϲϲων · νααϲϲων δε εγενʼνηϲεν τον ϲαλμων ·

5 ϲαλμων δε εγεννηϲεν τον βοεϲ εκ τηϲ ραχαβ βοεϲ δε εγεννηϲεν τον ϊωβηδ εκ τηϲ ρουθ : ϊωβηδ δε εγεννηϲεν τον ϊεϲϲαι ·

6 ϊεϲϲαι δε εγεννηϲεν τον δαδ τον βαϲιλεα : δαυειδʼ δε εγεννηϲεν τον ϲαλομων εκ τηϲ του ουριου :

7 ϲολομων δε εγενʼνηϲεν τον ροβοαμ · ροβοαμ δε εγεννηϲεν τον αβια · αβιαϲ δε εγεννηϲεν τον αϲαφ ˙

8 αϲαφʼ δε εγεννηϲε τον ϊωϲαφατʼ ϊωϲαφατʼ δε εγεννηϲεν τον ϊωραμʼ ϊωραμʼ δε εγεννηϲεν τον οζειαν

9 οζιαϲ δε εγεννηϲεν τον ϊωαθαμ · ϊωαθαμ δε εγενʼνηϲεν τον αχαϲ : αχαϲ δε εγενʼνηϲε τον εζεκιαν

10 εζεκιαϲ δε εγεννηϲεν τον μαναϲϲηϲ μαναϲϲηϲ δε εγεννηϲεν τον αμωϲ αμωϲ δε εγεννηϲεν τον ϊωϲειαν

11 ϊωϲειαϲ δε εγενʼνηϲεν τον ϊεχονιαν και τουϲ αδελφουϲ αυτου επι τηϲ μετοικεϲιαϲ βαβυλωνοϲ ·

12 μετα δε την μετοικεϲιαν βαβυλωνοϲ ϊεχονιαϲ εγεννηϲεν τον ϲαλαθιηλʼ · ϲαλαθιηλ δε εγεννηϲεν τον ζοροβαβελʼ ·

13 ζοροβαβελ δε εγεννηϲεν τον αβιουτ : αβιουδʼ δε εγεννηϲεν τον ελιακειμ ελιακειμ δε εγεννηϲεν τον αζωρ :

14 αζωρ δε εγεννηϲε τον ϲαδωχ : ϲαδωχ δε εγεννηϲεν τον αχειμ : αχειμ δε εγεννηϲεν τον ελιουτ :

15 ελιουτ δε εγεννηϲεν τον ελεαζαρ : ελεαζαρ δε εγεννηϲεν τον ματʼθαν · ματʼθαν δε εγεννηϲεν τον ϊακωβʼ :

16 ϊακωβʼ δε εγεννηϲεν τον ϊωϲηφ τον ανδρα μαριαϲ εξ ἡϲ εγενʼνηθη ιϲ ὁ λεγομενοϲ χϲ ·

17 παϲαι ουν ἁι γενεαι · απο αβρααμ ˙ εωϲ δαδʼ γενεαι ιδ · και απο δαδʼ εωϲ τηϲ μετοικεϲιαϲ βαβυλωνοϲ γενεαι ιδ και απο τηϲ μετοικεϲιαϲ βαβυλωνοϲ εωϲ του χυ γενεαι ιδ

18 του δε ιυ χυ η γενεϲιϲ ὁυτωϲ ην μνηϲϲτευθιϲηϲ τηϲ μητροϲ αυτου μαριαϲ τω ϊωϲηφ πρὶν η ϲυνελθιν αυτουϲ ἑυρέθη εν γαϲτρι εχουϲα εκ πνϲ αγιου ·

19 ϊωϲηφ δε ὁ ανηρ αυτηϲ δικαιοϲ ὡν και μη θελων αυτην παραδιγματιϲαι εβουληθη λαθρα απολυϲε αυτην ·

20 ταυτα δε αυτου ενθυμηθεντοϲ ϊδου αγʼγελοϲ κυ κατ οναρ εφανη αυτω λεγων ϊωϲηφʼ υϊοϲ δʼαδ μη φοβηθηϲ παραλαβειν μαριαμ την γυναικα ϲου το γαρ εν αυτη γεννηθεν εκ πνϲ εϲτιν αγιου

21 τεξεται δε υν και καλεϲειϲ το ονομα αυτου ιν αυτο̣ϲ̣ γαρ ϲωϲι τον λαον αυτου απο των ἁμαρτιῶν ἁυτων

22 τουτο δε ολον γεγονεν ινα πληρωθη το ρηθεν υπο κυ δια του προφητου λεγοντοϲ

23 ιδου η παρθενοϲ εν γαϲτρι εξι και τεξετε υν και καλεϲουϲι το ονομα αυτου εμʼμανουηλʼ ὁ εϲτιν μεθερμηνευομενο μεθʼ ημων ο θϲ ·

24 εγερθειϲ δε ϊωϲηφ απο του ϋπνου εποιηϲεν ὡϲ προϲεταξεν αυτω ο αγγελοϲ κυ και παρελαβεν ^┬ · την γυνεκα αυτου ·

25 και ουκ εγινωϲκεν αυτην εωϲ ὁυ ετεκεν ὑϊον και εκαλεϲεν το ονομα αυτου ιν

2: 1 του δε ιυ γεννηθεντοϲ εν βηθλεεμʼ τηϲ ϊουδαιαϲ εν ημερεϲ ηρωδου του βαϲιλεωϲ ϊδο'υ μάγοι απο ανατολων παρεγενοντο ιϲ ϊεροϲολυμα ·

2 λεγοντεϲ · που εϲτιν ὁ τεχθειϲ βαϲιλευϲ των ϊουδαιων ιδομεν γαρ αυτου τον αϲτεραν τη ανατολη και ηλθομεν προϲκυνηϲαι αυτω :

3 ακουϲαϲ δε ο βαϲιλευϲ ηρωδηϲ εταραχθη και παϲα ϊεροϲολυμα μετʼ αυτου

4 και ϲυναγαγω πανταϲ τουϲ αρχιερειϲ και γραμματειϲ του λαου επυνθανετο παρ αυτω πο'υ ο χϲ γεννατε

5 ὁι δε εῖπαν αυτω εν βηθλεεμʼ τηϲ ϊουδαιαϲ · : ουτωϲ γαρ γεγραπται δια του προφητου ·

17 So all the generations from Abraham till David, are fourteen generations; and from David till the removal to Babylon, are fourteen generations; and from the removal to Babylon till Christ, are fourteen generations.
18 But the birth of Jesus Christ was thus: After his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.
19 And Joseph her husband, being just and not willing to make her an example, intended to put her away privately.
20 But while he thought of these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying: Joseph, son of David, fear not to take to thee Mary thy wife; for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.
21 And she shall bear a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus; for he shall save his people from their sins.
22 And all this was done, that it might be fulfilled that was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying:
23 Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel, which is, when translated, God with us.
24 And Joseph arose from his sleep, and did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him, and took to him his wife; and knew her not till she had brought forth a son; and he called his name Jesus.

1 But after Jesus had been born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of Herod the king, behold, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem,
2 saying: Where is he that has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star at its rising, and have come to worship him.
3 And hearing it, king Herod was alarmed, and all Jerusalem with him.
4 And he assembled all the chief priests and scribes of the people, and inquired of them where the Christ should be born.
5 And they said to him: In Bethlehem of Judea; for thus it is written by the prophet:

6 και ϲυ βηθλεεμ γη ϊουδα ουδαμωϲ ελαχίϲτή ει εν τοιϲ ηγεμοϲιν ϊουδα · εξ ου ^┬ εξελευϲεται ηγουμενοϲ ὁϲτιϲ ποιμανι τον λαο μου τον ιηλ

7 τοτε ηρωδηϲ λαθρα καλεϲαϲ τουϲ μαγουϲ ηκριβωϲεν παρ αυτων τον χρονον του φαινομενου αϲτεροϲ ·

8 και πεμψαϲ αυτουϲ ειϲ βηθλεεμʼ εῖπεν πορευθεντεϲ εξεταϲατε ακριβωϲ περι του πεδιου · επα δε ἑύρητε απαγγιλατε μοι · ὁπωϲ καγω ελθων προϲκυνηϲω αυτω

9 ὁι δε ακουϲαντεϲ του βαϲιλεωϲ επορευθηϲαν · και ϊδου ὁ αϲτηρ ὁν ϊδον εν τη ανατολη προῆγεν αυτουϲ ἑωϲ ελθων εϲταθη επανω ὁυ ἠν το παιδιον ·

10 ϊδοντεϲ δε τον αϲτεραν εχαρηϲαν χαραν μεγαλην ϲφοδρα ·

11 και ελθοντεϲ ειϲ την οικιαν ϊδον το παιδιον μετα μαριαϲ τηϲ μητροϲ αυτου · και πεϲοντεϲ προϲεκυνηϲαν αυτω · και ανοιξαντεϲ τουϲ θηϲαυρουϲ ἁυτων προϲηνεγʼκαν αυτω δωρα χρυϲον · και λιβανο · και ϲμυρναν ·

12 και χρηματιϲθεντεϲ κατ ὁναρ μη ανακαμψαι προϲ ηρωδην διʼ άλʼληϲ ὁδου ανεχωρηϲαν ειϲ την εαυτων χωραν

13 αναχωρηϲαντω δε αυτων ϊδου αγγελοϲ κυ φαινεται κατʼ οναρ τω ϊωϲηφ ˙ λεγων · εγερθειϲ παραλαβε το παιδιον και την μητερα ἀυτου · και φευγε ειϲ αιγυπτο · και ϊϲθι εκει ἑωϲ αν έιπω ϲοι · μελʼλει γαρ ηρωδηϲ ζητιν το πεδιον του απολεϲε αυτο ·

14 ὁ δε εγερθειϲ παρελαβε το πεδιον και την μητερα ἁυτου νυκτοϲ και ανεχωρηϲεν ειϲ αιγυπτον ·

15 και η εκι εωϲ τηϲ τελευτηϲ ἡρωδου ϊνα πληρωθῆ το ρηθε ϋπο κυ δια του προφητου λεγοντοϲ εξ αιγυπτου εκαλεϲα τον υν μου

16 τοτε ηρωδηϲ ϊδω ὁτι ενεπεχθη υπο των μαγων εθυμωθη λειαν και αποϲτιλαϲ ανἑιλεν πανταϲ τουϲ παιδαϲ τουϲ εν βηθλεεμ · και εν πᾶϲι τοιϲ ὁρὶοιϲ ἀυτηϲ απο διετουϲ · και κατωτερω · κατα τον χρονον ὁν ηκριβωϲεν παρα των μαγων ·

17 τοτε επληρωθη το ρηθεν δια ϊερεμιου του προφητου λεγοντοϲ

18 φωνη εν ραμα ηκουϲθη · κλαυθμοϲ και οδυρμοϲ πολυϲ · ραχηλ · κλαιουϲα τα τεκνα ἁυτηϲ · και ουκʼ ηθελεν παρακληθηναι ὁτι ουκʼ ειϲιν

19 τελευτηϲαντοϲ δε του ηρωδου · ϊδου αγγελοϲ κυ φαινεται κατʼ οναρ τω ϊωϲηφʼ εν αιγυπτω

20 λεγων : εγερθειϲ παραλαβε το παιδιον και τη μρα ἀυτου · και πορευου ειϲ γην ιηλ · τεθνηκαϲιν γαρ ὁι ζητουντεϲ την ψυχην του πεδιου ·

21 ὁ δε εγερθιϲ παρελαβε το παιδιον · και την μρα αυτου · και ειϲῆλθεν ειϲ γην ιηλ

22 άκουϲαϲ δε ὁτι αρχελαοϲ βαϲιλευει τηϲ ϊουδαιαϲ · αντι του πρϲ αυτου ηρωδου · εφοβηθη εκει απελθειν · χρηματιϲθειϲ δε κατʼ οναρ ανεχωρηϲεν ειϲ τα μερη τηϲ γαλιλαιαϲ ·

23 και ελθων κατʼώκηϲεν ειϲ πολιν λεγομενη ναζαρετʼ · ὁπωϲ πληρωθη το ρηθε δια των προφητω' ὁτι ναζωρᾶιοϲ κληθηϲεται :

3: 1 εν δε ταιϲ ημερεϲ εκειναιϲ παραγεινεται ϊωανʼνηϲ ο βαπτιϲτηϲ · κηρυϲϲων εν τη ερημω τηϲ ϊουδεαϲ

2 λεγω μετανοεῖτε ηγʼγικεν γαρ η βαϲιλια των ουνων ·

3 ουτοϲ γαρ εϲτιν ο ρηθιϲ δια ηϲαιου του προφητου λεγοντοϲ · φωνη βοωντοϲ εν τη ερημω · ἑτοιμαϲατε την οδον κυ ευθιαϲ ποιειται ταϲ τριβουϲ αυτου

4 αυτοϲ δε ὁ ϊωανʼνηϲ ειχεν το ενδυμα ἁυτου απο τριχων καμηλου . και ζωνην δερματινην περι την ὂϲφυν ἁυτου η δε τροφη ην αυτου ακριδεϲ · και μελι αγριον

5 τοτε εξεπορευετο προϲ αυτον ϊεροϲολυμα και παϲα ἡ ϊουδεα κ(αι) παϲα ἡ περιχωροϲ του ϊορδανου

6 και εβαπτιζοντο εν τω ϊορδανη ποταμω ^┬ εξομολογουμενοι ταϲ ἁμαρτιαϲ ἁυτων :

7 ϊδων δε πολʼλουϲ των φαριϲαιων και ϲαδʼδουκαιω ερχομενουϲ επι το βαπτιϲμα ^┬ εῖπεν αυτοιϲ · γενʼνηματα εχιδνῶν τιϲ υπεδειξεν ϋμιν φυγιν απο τηϲ μελʼλουϲηϲ ορ

5 And they said to him: In Bethlehem of Judea; for thus it is written by the prophet:

6 And thou, Bethlehem, land of Judah, art by no means the least among the princes of Judah; for out of thee shall come a Governor, who shall rule my people Israel.

7 Then Herod having secretly called the Magi, inquired of them strictly the time at which the star appeared;

8 and sending them to Bethlehem, said: Go, make strict inquiry for the young child: and when you have found him, bring me word, that I also may go and worship him.

9 And after hearing the king, they departed; and lo, the star which they had seen at its rising, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.

10 And when they saw the star, they rejoiced with very great joy.

11 And coming into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother; and falling down they worshipped him; and having opened their treasures they offered to him gifts, gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

12 And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they withdrew into their own country by another way.

13 But after they had withdrawn, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying: Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be there till I bring thee word; for Herod is about to seek for the young child, to destroy him.

14 And he arose and took the young child and his mother, by night, and withdrew into Egypt,

15 and was there till the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled that was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: Out of Egypt I called my Son.

16 Then Herod, seeing that he had been deceived by the Magi, was greatly enraged; and, having sent out, he slew all the male children that were in Bethlehem, and in all its borders, from the age of two years and under, according to the time which he had strictly inquired of the Magi.

17 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet, saying:

18 A voice was heard in Ramah, wailing and great mourning: Rachel weeping for her children; and she would not be comforted because they are no more.

19 But after Herod had died, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

20 saying: Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel; for they are dead that sought the young child's life.

21 And he arose and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.

22 But hearing that Archelaus reigned in Judea, in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither; but being warned in a dream, he withdrew into the regions of Galilee,

23 and came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth, that it might be fulfilled that was spoken through the prophets: He shall be called a Nazarene.

1 But in those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea,

2 saying: Repent, for the kingdom of the heavens is at hand.

3 For this is he that was spoken of through Isaiah the prophet, saying: The voice of one crying in the wilderness. Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

4 But the same John had his clothing of camel's hair, and a girdle of leather around his loins, and his food was locusts and wild honey.

5 Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region round about the Jordan,

6 and were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

7 But seeing many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them: Brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?

3: 7 γηϲ ·

8 ποιηϲάτε ουν καρπον αξιον τηϲ μετανοιαϲ ·

9 και μη δοξητε λεγιν εν εαυτοιϲ πρα εχομεν τον αβρααμʼ λεγω γαρ υμιν ὁτι δυναται ο θϲ εκ των λιθων τουτων εγιραι τεκνα τω αβρααμʼ ·

10 ηδη δε ἡ αξίνη προϲ την ριζαν των δέδρων κειται παν ουν δενδρον μη ποιουν καρπον καλον εκκοπτεται και ειϲ πυρ βαλʼλεται ·

11 εγω μεν γαρ υμαϲ βαπτιζω εν υδατι ειϲ μετανοια ὁ δε οπιϲω μου ερχομενοϲ ϊϲχυροτεροϲ μου εϲτιν ὁυ ουκʼ ειμι ϊκανοϲ τα υποδηματα βαϲταϲαι αυτοϲ υμαϲ βαπτιϲι εν πνι ἁγιω και πυρι ˙

12 ὁυ το πτῦον εν τη χειρι αυτου και διακαθαριε'ι την ἅλωνα ἁυτου · και ϲυναξει τον ϲιτο ἁυτου ειϲ την αποθηκην · το δε αχυρον κατακαυϲι πυρι αϲβεϲτω ·

13 τοτε παραγινεται ο ιϲ απο τηϲ γαλιλαιαϲ επι τον ϊορδανην προϲ τον ϊωανʼνην του βαπτιϲθηναι υJπʼ αυτου

14 ὁ δε ^┬ διεκωλυεν αυτον · λεγω · εγω χριαν εχω υπο ϲου βαπτιϲθηνε · και ϲυ ερχη προϲ με :

15 αποκριθειϲ δε ὁ ιϲ ειπεν προϲ αυτον άφεϲ αρτι ˙ ουτω γαρ πρεπον εϲτιν ἡμαϲ πληρωϲαι παϲαν δικαιοϲυνην · τοτε αφιηϲιν αυτον :

16 βαπτιϲθειϲ δε ὁ ιϲ ευθυϲ ανεβη απο του υδατοϲ και ϊδου ανεωχθηϲαν ^┬ οι ουρανοι και εῖδεν πνα θυ καταβᾶινον ὡϲει περιϲτεραν ^┬ ερχομενον επ αυτο ·

17 και ϊδου φωνη εκ των ουνων λεγουϲα ὁυτοϲ εϲτιν ὁ υϲ μου ὁ αγαπητοϲ εν ὡ ηυδοκηϲα

4: 1 τοτε ο ιϲ ανηχθη υπο του πνϲ ειϲ την ερημον πιραϲθηνε̣ι ϋπο του διαβολου

2 και νηϲτευϲαϲ ημεραϲ τεϲϲερακοντα κ(αι) τεϲϲερακοντα νυκταϲ υϲτερον επιναϲεν

3 και προϲελθων ὁ πιραζων εῖπε αυτω ἑι υἱοϲ ει του θυ εὶπε ινα οι λιθοι ὁυτοι αρτοι γενωνται :

4 ὁ δε αποκριθειϲ εῖπεν · γεγραπται ουκʼ επ αρτω μονω ζηϲεται ὁ ανοϲ αλʼλ επι παντι ρηματι εκπορευομενω δια ϲτοματοϲ θυ :

5 τοτε παραλαμβανι αυτον ὁ διαβολοϲ ειϲ την ἁγιαν πολιν και εϲτηϲεν αυτον επι το πτερυγιον του ϊερου

6 και λεγει αυτω ει ὑϊοϲ ει του θυ βαλε ϲεαυτον κατω : γεγραπται γαρ ὁτι τοιϲ αγʼγελοιϲ ἁυτου εντελιτε περὶ ϲου και επι χειρων αροῦϲίν ϲε μήποτε προϲκόψηϲ προϲ λιθον τον ποδα ϲου ·

7 εφη αυτω ο ιϲ παλιν · γεγραπται · ουκʼ εκπιραϲειϲ κν τον θν ϲου ·

8 παλιν παραλαμβανει αυτον ὁ διαβολοϲ ειϲ ὅροϲ υψηλον λῖαν και δικνυει αυτω παϲαϲ ταϲ βαϲιλιαϲ του κοϲμου · και την δοξαν αυτω

9 και ειπεν αυτω · ταυτα ϲοι παντα δωϲω ˙ εαν πεϲω προϲκυνηϲηϲ μοι ·

10 τοτε λεγι αυτω ο ιϲ ϋπαγε ϲατανα · γεγραπται γαρ κν τον θν ϲου προϲκυνηϲηϲ · και αυτω μονω λατρευϲιϲ :

11 τοτε αφιηϲιν αυτον ὁ διαβολοϲ και ϊδου αγʼγελοι προϲῆλθον και διηκονουν αυτω :

12 ακουϲαϲ δε ιωαννηϲ οτι παρεδοθη ανεχωρηϲε ειϲ την γαλιλαια :

13 και καταλιπων την ναζαρεθʼ ελθων κατώκηϲε ειϲ καφαρναουμ την παρα θαλαϲϲα · εν ὁριοιϲ ζαβουλων · και νεφθαλειμʼ ·

14 ϊνα πληρωθῆ το ρηθεν δια ηϲαϊου του προφητου λεγοντοϲ ·

15 γη ζαβουλων · και γη νεφθαλειμ · ὁδον θαλαϲϲηϲ περαν του ϊορδανου γαλιλαῖα των εθνῶν

16 ὁ λαοϲ ὁ καθημενοϲ εν ϲκοτι φωϲ ιδεν μεγα · και τοιϲ καθημενοιϲ εν χωρα και ϲκιᾶ θανατου φωϲ ανετιλεν αυτοιϲ :

17 απο τοτε ηρξατο ο ιϲ κηρυϲϲιν · και λεγιν μετανοεῖτε ηγʼγικεν γαρ ἡ βαϲιλια των ουρανων :

18 περιπατων δε παρα την θαλαϲϲαν τηϲ γαλιλαῖαϲ εῖδεν δυο αδελφουϲ · ϲιμωνα τον λεγομενον πετρον · και ανδρεαν τον αδελʼφον αυτου βαλʼλονταϲ αμφιβληϲτρον ειϲ την θαλαϲϲαν ηϲαν γαρ ἁλεειϲ ·

19 και λεγει αυτοιϲ · δευ

الترجمة

7 But seeing many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them: Brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?

8 Bring forth therefore fruit worthy of repentance,

9 and think not to say within yourselves: We have Abraham for a father; for I say to you that God is able of these stones to raise up children for Abraham.

10 And now the ax is lying at the root of the trees: every tree, therefore, that brings not forth good fruit is cut down, and thrown into the fire.

11 I indeed baptize you in water in order to repentance; but he that comes after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry: he will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and in fire:

12 whose winnowing shovel is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor, and gather his grain into the granary; but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.

13 Then came Jesus from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him.

14 But he forbade him, saying: I have need to be baptized by thee, and comest thou to me?

15 But Jesus answered and said to him: Permit it now; for thus it becomes us to fulfill every righteous act. Then he permitted him.

16 And having been baptized, Jesus immediately went up from the water; and lo, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming upon him.

17 And lo, a voice from the heavens, saying: This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

1 Then was Jesus led up by the Spirit into the wilderness, to be tempted by the devil.

2 And having fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward hungry.

3 And the tempter came and said to him: If thou art the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.

4 But he answered and said: It is written: Not by bread alone shall man live, but by every word that comes forth through the mouth of God.

5 Then the devil took him into the holy city, and set him on the wing of the temple.

6 and said to him: If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down; for it is written: He will give his angels charge concerning thee, and in their hands they shall take thee up, lest thou strike thy foot against a stone.

7 Jesus said to him: Again it is written: Thou shalt not put the Lord thy God to the proof.

8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them,

9 and said to him: All these will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

10 Then Jesus says to him: Get hence, Satan; for it is written: The Lord thy God thou shalt worship, and him only shalt thou serve

11 Then the devil left him; and, behold, angels came and ministered to him.

12 But when he had heard that John was delivered up, he withdrew into Galilee;

13 and leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is on the sea, in the borders of Zebulon and Naphtali;

14 that it might be fulfilled that was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying:

15 The land of Zebulon, and the land of Naphtali, toward the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;

16 the people that sat in darkness saw great light; and upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death light arose.

17 From that time Jesus began to preach and to say: Repent, for the kingdom of the heavens is at hand.

18 And walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, throwing a net into the sea, for they were fishers.

19 And he said to them: Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men. متى 4: 19 - 5: 22

4: 19 τε ὀπιϲω μου · και ποιηϲω ϋμαϲ γενεϲθαι αλιειϲ ανων

20 ὁι δε ευθεωϲ αφεντεϲ τα δικτυα ηκολουθηϲαν αυτω ·

21 και προβαϲ εκειθεν ˙ ϊδεν αλʼλουϲ δυο αδελφουϲ · ϊακωβον τον του ζεβεδαιου · και ϊωανʼνην τον αδελφον ἁυτου · εν τω πλοιω μετα ζεβεδαιου του πρϲ ἁυτων καταρτίζονταϲ τα δικτυα ἁυτων και εκαλεϲεν αυτουϲ ·

22 οι δε ευθεωϲ αφετεϲ το πλοιον αυτων και τον πατερα ἁυτων ηκολουθηϲαν αυτω :

23 και περιῆγεν ο ιϲ εν τη γαλιλαια διδαϲκων αυτουϲ εν ταιϲ ϲυναγωγαιϲ ἀυτων και κηρυϲϲων το ευαγʼγελιον τηϲ βαϲιλιαϲ · και θεραπευω παϲαν νοϲον και παϲαν μαλακιαν εν τω λαω ·

24 και εξηλθεν η ακοη αυτου ειϲ παϲαν την ϲυριαν και προϲηνεγʼκα αυτω πανταϲ τουϲ κακωϲ εχονταϲ ποικιλαιϲ νοϲοιϲ και βαϲανουϲ ϲυνεχομενουϲ και δε̣μονιαζομενουϲ και ϲεληνιαζομενουϲ · και παραλυτικουϲ · και εθεραπευϲεν αυτουϲ

25 και ηκολουθηϲα αυτω οχλοι πολʼλοι απο τηϲ γαλιλαιαϲ και δεκαπολεωϲ και ϊεροϲολυμων · και ϊουδαιαϲ · και περαν του ϊορδανου :

5: 1 ϊδων δε τουϲ οχλουϲ ανεβη ειϲ το οροϲ και καθιϲαντοϲ αυτου προϲηλθαν αυτω οι μαθηται αυτου ·

2 και ανοιξαϲ το ϲτομα ἁυτου εδιδαϲκεν αυτουϲ λεγω :

3 μακαριοι οι πτωχοι τω πνι ὁτι αυτων εϲτιν η βαϲιλια των ουνω

4 μακαριοι οι πενθουντεϲ ^┬ οτι αυτοι παρακληθηϲονται ·

5 μακαριοι οι πραειϲ ὁτι αυτοι κληρονομηϲουϲιν την γην

6 μακαριοι ὁι πινωτεϲ και διψωντεϲ την δικαιοϲυνη οτι αυτοι χορταϲθηϲονται ·

7 μακαριοι ὁι ελεημονεϲ ὁτι αυτοι ελεηθηϲονται

8 μακαριοι ὁι καθαροι τη καρ̣δια ὁτι αυτοι τον θν οψονται

9 μακαριοι ὁι ϊρηνοποιοι οτι υιοι θυ κληθηϲονται ·

10 μακαριοι οι δεδιωγμενοι ενεκε δικαιοϲυνηϲ ὁτι αυτων εϲτιν η βαϲιλια των ουρανω ·

11 μακαριοι εϲτε οτα ονειδιϲωϲιν υμαϲ και διωξουϲιν · και ειπωϲιν παν πονηρον καθ υμων ψευδομενοι ενεκεν εμου ·

12 χαιρεται και αγαλʼλιαϲθε ὁτι ο μιϲθοϲ υμων πολυϲ εν τοιϲ ουνοιϲ ουτωϲ γαρ εδιωξαν τουϲ προφηταϲ τουϲ προ υμων ·

13 υμιϲ ὲϲτε το ἁλα τηϲ γηϲ εαν δε το ἁλα μωρανθῆ εν τίνι ἁλιϲθηϲεται · ειϲ ουδεν ϊϲχυει ετι ει μη βληθεν εξω καταπατιϲθε υπο των ανθρωπων ·

14 υμειϲ εϲται το φωϲ του κοϲμου · ου δυναται πολιϲ κρυβηναι επανω ορουϲ κειμενη

15 ουδε κεουϲιν λυχνο και τιθεαϲιν αυτον υπο τον μοδιο αλʼλʼ επι την λυχνιαν · και λαμπι παϲιν τοιϲ εν τη οικια

16 ὁυτωϲ λαμψατω το φωϲ υμων εμπροϲθε των ανων οπωϲ ἴδωϲιν υμων τα καλα εργα και δοξαϲωϲιν τον πρα υμων τον εν τοιϲ ουνοιϲ ·

17 μη νομιϲητε οτι ηλθον καταλυϲαι τον νομον η τουϲ προφηταϲ ουκʼ ηλθον καταλυϲαι αλʼλα πληρωϲαι ·

18 αμην γαρ λεγω υμιν ἑωϲ αν παρελθη ὁ ουρανοϲ και ἡ γη ϊῶτα εν ἠ μία κεραια ου μη παρελθη απο του νομου ἑωϲ αν παντα γενηται ·

19 ὁϲ εαν ουν λυϲη μιαν των εντολω τουτων των ελαχιϲτων και διδαξη ουτωϲ τουϲ αθρωπουϲ ελαχιϲτοϲ κληθηϲετε εν τη βαϲιλια τω ουνων ^┬

20 λεγω γαρ υμιν ὁτι εαν μη περιϲϲευϲη υμω η δικαιοϲυνη πλεον των γραμʼματεων και φαριϲαιων ου μη ειϲελθηται ειϲ την βαϲιλιαν των ουρανων

21 ηκουϲατε οτι ερʼρεθη τοιϲ αρχαιοιϲ ου φονευϲειϲ ὁϲ δ αν φονευϲη ενοχοϲ εϲται τη κριϲει ·

22 εγω δε λεγω ϋμιν οτι πᾶϲ ὁ οργιζομενοϲ τω αδελφω ἁυτου ^┬ ενοχοϲ εϲτε τη κριϲει · οϲ δ αν είπη τω αδελφω ἁυτου ραχα ενοχοϲ εϲται τω ϲυνεδριω ˙ ὁϲ δʼ αν

19 And he said to them: Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.

20 And they immediately left their nets and followed him.

21 And going on thence, he saw other two brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.

22 And immediately leaving the ship and their father, they followed him.

23 And he went about in the whole of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and curing every disease and every malady among the people.

24 And his fame went abroad into the whole of Syria; and they brought to him all that were sick with various diseases, and that were afflicted with torments, and those possessed with demons, and lunatics, and paralytics; and he cured them.

25 And there followed him many multitudes from Galilee, and Decapolis, and Jerusalem, and Judea, and from beyond the Jordan.

1 But seeing the multitudes, he went up into the mountain; and when he had sat down, his disciples came to him;

2 and he opened his mouth and taught them, saying:

3 Blessed are the poor in spirit; for theirs in the kingdom of the heavens.

4 Blessed are the meek; for they shall inherit the earth.

5 Blessed are they that mourn; for they shall be comforted.

6 Blessed are they that hunger and thirst for righteousness; for they shall be filled.

7 Blessed are the merciful; for they shall receive mercy.

8 Blessed are the pure in heart; for they shall see God.

9 Blessed are the peacemakers; for they shall be called sons of God.

10 Blessed are they that are persecuted for righteousness' sake; for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens.

11 Blessed are you when they shall reproach you, and persecute you, and say every evil thing against you falsely for my sake.

12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad; for great is your reward in the heavens; for so persecuted they the prophets that were before you.

13 You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt shall have become tasteless, by what means shall it be salted? It is then good for nothing but, after being cast out, to be trod upon by men.

14 You are the light of the world. A city that lies upon a mountain cannot be hid:

15 neither do men light a lamp and put it under the measure, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all that are in the house.

16 So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in the heavens.

17 Think not that I have come to destroy the law or the prophets: I have not come to destroy, but to fulfill.

18 For verily I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one yod or one point shall in no way pass from the law, till all be accomplished.

19 Whoever therefore shall make void one of the least of these commandments, and shall teach men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of the heavens; but whoever shall do and teach, he shall be called great in the kingdom of the heavens,

20 For I say to you, that unless your righteousness shall be more abundant than that of the scribes and Pharisees, you can by no means enter into the kingdom of the heavens.

21 You have heard that it was said to the ancients: Thou shalt not kill; and whoever shall kill shall be liable to the judgment.

22 But I say to you, that whoever is angry with his brother shall be liable to the judgment; and whoever shall say to his brother. Worthless fellow, shall be liable to the Sanhedrim; but whoever shall say: Thou fool, shall be liable to be cast into hellfire.

5: 22 ειπη μωρε ενοχοϲ εϲτε ειϲ την γεενʼναν του πυροϲ ·

23 εαν ουν προϲφερηϲ το δωρον ϲου επι το θυϲιαϲτηριον κακει μνηϲθηϲ ὁτι ὁ αδελφοϲ ϲου εχι τι κατα ϲου ·

24 αφεϲ εκι το δωρον ϲου εμπροϲθεν του θυϲιαϲτηριου · και υπαγε πρωτον διαλʼλαγηθι τω αδελφω ϲου · και τοτε ελθων προϲφερε το δωρον ϲου ·

25 ϊϲθι ευνοων τω αντιδικω ϲου ταχυ εωϲ ὅτου ει μετʼ αυτου εν τη οδω · μηποτε ϲε παραδω ὁ αντίδικοϲ τω κριτη · και ὁ κριτηϲ τω ϋπηρετη και ειϲ φυλακην βληθηϲη ·

26 αμην λεγω ϲοι · ου μη εξελθηϲ εκιθεν εωϲ αν αποδῶϲ τον εϲχατο κοδραντην ·

27 ηκουϲατε ὁτι ερρεθη ου μοιχευϲιϲ ·

28 εγω δε λεγω υμι ὁτι παϲ ο βλεπω γυναικα προϲ το επιθυμηϲε ^┬ ηδη εμοιχευϲεν αυτην εν τη καρδια ἁυτου

29 ει δε ο οφθαλμοϲ ϲου ὁ δεξιοϲ ϲκανδαλιζι ϲε ἑξἑλε αυτον · και βαλε απο ϲου ϲυμφερι γαρ ϲοι ἱνα αποληται ἑν των μελω ϲου και μη ὁλον το ϲωμα ϲου βληθῆ ειϲ γεενναν ·

30 και ει ἡ δεξια ϲου χειρ ϲκανδαλιζι ϲε εκκοψον αυτη και βαλε απο ϲου · ϲυμφερι γαρ ϲοι ϊνα απόληται ἑν τω μελων ϲου η ὁλον το ϲωμα ϲου ειϲ γεενναν απελθη ·

31 ερρέθη ^┬ ὁϲ ἁν απολυϲη την γυναικα ἁυτου δοτω αυτῆ αποϲταϲιον ·

32 εγω δε λεγω υμιν ὁτι πᾶϲ ὁ απολυων τη γυναικα ἁυτου παρὲκτοϲ λογου πορνιαϲ ποιε'ι αυτην μοιχευθηναι · και ὁϲ αν απολελυμενην γαμηϲη μοιχατε :

33 παλιν ηκουϲατε οτι ερρέθη τοιϲ αρχαιοιϲ ουκʼ εφιὁρκηϲειϲ · αποδωϲιϲ δε τω κω τουϲ ορκουϲ ϲου :

34 εγω δε λεγω υμι μη ομοϲαι ολωϲ · μητε εν τω ουνω ὁτι θρονοϲ εϲτιν του θυ

35 μητε εν τη γη ὁτι υποποδιον εϲτιν των ποδων αυτου · μητε ειϲ ϊεροϲολυμα ὁτι πολιϲ εϲτιν του μεγαλου βαϲιλεωϲ ·

36 μητε εν τη κεφαλη ϲου ομοϲηϲ ὁτι ου δυναϲαι μιαν τριχαν λευκη ποιηϲαι ἠ μελαιναν ·

37 εϲτω δε ο λογοϲ υμων ναι ναι · ου ου · το δε περιϲϲον τουτων εκ του πονηρου εϲτιν :

38 ηκουϲατε ὁτι ερρέθη οφθαλμον αντι οφθαλμου · και ὁδόντα αντι οδοτοϲ

39 εγω δε λεγω υμιν μη αντιϲταθηναι τω πονηρω : αλλ οϲτιϲ ϲε ραπιζι ειϲ την δεξιαν ϲιαγονα ϲτρεψον αυτω και τη αλλην

40 και τω θελοντι ϲοι κριθηναι και τον χιτωνα ϲου λαβιν αφεϲ τουτω και το ϊματιον ϲου :

41 και οϲτιϲ ϲε εαν ενγαρευϲη μιλιον εν υπαγε μετ αυτου δυο

42 τω αιτουντι ϲοι δοϲ και τον θελοντα απο ϲου δανιϲαϲθαι μη αποϲτραφηϲ

43 ηκουϲατε οτι ερρεθη αγαπηϲειϲ τον πληϲιον ϲου και μιϲηϲειϲ τον εχθρον ϲου ·

44 εγω δε λεγω υμιν αγαπατε τουϲ εχθρουϲ υμων και προϲευχεϲθαι υπερ των διωκοντων υμαϲ

45 οπωϲ γενηϲθε υϊοι του πρϲ ϋμων του εν ουρανοιϲ οτι τον ηλιον αυτου ανατελλι επι πονηρουϲ και αγαθουϲ και βρεχι επι

46 εαν γαρ αγαπηϲητε τουϲ αγαπωνταϲ υμαϲ τινα μιϲθον εχετε ^┬ και οι τελωναι το αυτο ποιουϲιν

47 και εαν αϲπαϲηϲθε τουϲ αδελφουϲ υμων μονον τι περιϲϲον ποιειται ουχι και οι εθνικοι το αυτο ποιουϲιν

48 εϲεϲθε ουν ϋμιϲ τελιοι ωϲ ο πηρ ϋμω ο ουρανιοϲ τελιοϲ εϲτιν :

6: 1 προϲεχετε δε την δικαιοϲυνην υμων μη ποιειν εμπροϲθεν των ανων προϲ το θεαθηνε αυτοιϲ ει δε μη γε μιϲθον ουκ εχετε παρα τω πρι υμω τω εν ^┬ ουνοιϲ

2 οταν ουν ποιηϲε̣ι̣ϲ̣ ελεημοϲυνην μη ϲαλπιϲηϲ εμπροϲθεν ϲου ωϲπερ οι ϋποκριται ποιουϲιν εν τεϲ ϲυναγωγεϲ και εν ταιϲ ρυμαιϲ οπωϲ δοξαϲθωϲι υπο των ανων αμην αμην λεγω υμιν απεχουϲι τον μιϲθον αυτω

3 ϲου δε ποιουντοϲ ελαιημοϲυνην μη γνωτω η αριϲτερα ϲου τι ποιει η δεξια ϲου

4 οπωϲ η ϲου ελεημοϲυνη η εν τω κρυπτω και ο πηρ ϲου
الترجمة

22 But I say to you, that whoever is angry with his brother shall be liable to the judgment; and whoever shall say to his brother. Worthless fellow, shall be liable to the Sanhedrim; but whoever shall say: Thou fool, shall be liable to be cast into hellfire.

23 If therefore thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there remember that thy brother has anything against thee,

24 leave there thy gift before the altar, and go, first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

25 Agree with thy opponent-at-law quickly, while thou art on the road with him, lest perhaps the opponent-at-law deliver thee to the judge, and the judge to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.

26 Verily I say to thee, thou shalt not come out thence, till thou shalt have paid the last farthing.

27 You have heard that it was said: Thou shalt not commit adultery.

28 But I say to you, That every one that looks on a woman to cherish desire, has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

29 But if thy right eye ensnares thee, pull it out, and throw it from thee; for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members perish, and not that thy whole body be thrown into hell.

30 And if thy right hand ensnares thee, cut it off, and throw it from thee; for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members perish, and not that thy whole body go away into hell.

31 And it has been said: Whoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a bill of divorce.

32 But I say to you, that whoever shalt put away his wife, unless on account of lewdness, causes her to commit adultery; and whoever shall marry her that is put away commits adultery.

33 Again: you have heard that it was said to the ancients: Thou shalt not swear falsely, but shalt pay to the Lord thy oaths.

34 But I say to you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven, for it is the throne of God;

35 nor by the earth, for it is his footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King:

36 neither shalt thou swear by thy head, for thou canst not make one hair white or black.

37 But let your word be yes, yes; no, no; and that which is more than these is of the evil one.

38 You have heard that it was said: Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.

39 But I say to you, that you resist not the injurious; but whoever shall smite thee on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.

40 And to him that will go to law with thee, and take away thy coat, give up thy mantle also.

41 And whoever will impress thee to go one mile, go with him two.

42 Give to him that asks of thee, and from him that would borrow of thee, turn not away.

43 You have heard that it was said: Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thy enemy.

44 But I say to you. Love your enemies, and pray for them that persecute you;

45 that you may become sons of your Father who is in the heavens; for he makes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends his rain on the just and the unjust.

46 For if you love them that love you, what reward have you? Do not even the publicans the same?

47 And if you salute your brethren only, what do you more? Do not even the heathen the same?

48 Be you therefore perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect.

1 But take heed that you do not your righteousness before men, to be seen by them: other wise you have no reward with your Father who is in the heavens.

2 When therefore thou wouldst do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues, and in the streets, that they may be glorified by men. Verily I say to you: They have their reward in full.

3 But when thou doest a charitable deed, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand does;

4 that thy charitable deed may be in secret; and thy Father who sees in secret will reward thee.
