If Islam "honors" women, its followers sure have a funny way of showing that. Who wants to be wrapped up in yards of black cloth they can barely see out of in 100 degree heat? Who wants to be castrated so they can't enjoy sex? Who wants to be shot for going to school or stoned to death for sleeping with a man they aren't married to? Who wants to drag a male relative along with them every time they go out of the house for a loaf of bread? Who wants to be beaten or killed by their husband? Who wants to have to beg on the streets for a living after their husband dies and can no longer support them? Who? Certainly not me or millions of other Western women like me who see Muslim culture in the Middle-East as an exercise in male chauvinism.
Of course I realize that in some countries, like in the U.S. and in Iran, women can get away with just wearing a scarf (instead of a full burkha) but it still rankles my senses just knowing the scarf is mandatory and that Muslim women still sit in a separate space in the mosque
